BARRHEAD - Rural Municipalities of Alberta's insurance company, Genesis, is helping the communities it serves help the residents they serve by donating to worthwhile not-for-profit organizations in their jurisdictions.
On June 18, RMA Zone 3 director Josh Bishop and County of Barrhead reeve Doug Drozd presented Barrhead and District Family Community Support Services (FCSS) executive director Savannah Belyk with a $5,000 donation for the food bank.
The RMA is an independent association comprising 69 counties and municipal districts of Alberta. Its purpose is to advocate for issues impacting rural municipalities at the provincial and federal levels.
Bishop, who is also the Reeve of the County of Wetaskiwin, serves as the Zone 3 RMA director and oversees the association's municipal insurance company, Genesis.
Bishop said Genesis has a specific fund earmarked for rural not-for-profit organizations that make a difference in their communities.
"The County of Barrhead reeve Doug Drozd nominated Barrhead FCSS and the food bank, and we are pleased to be able to help them help people who need some assistance," he said.
Belyk said the funds will likely be used to purchase essentials such as toiletries, including toilet paper, soap, and shampoo.
"It is not something many people who donate to the food bank think about, but they are necessities," she said. "Some of the money will also go towards programming to help our clients navigate the troubles they are experiencing."
