It was a night of celebration. On Friday March, 18, more than 200 people crowded into the Barrhead United Church to see some of the best performers from the Barrhead Rotary Music Festival.

The concert featured 20 different performances, each chosen by one of the four adjudicators to showcase the best of the music festival.

Ruth Bohn, MC of the event and Rotary Music Festival board member, said over the course of the seven day event, which spanned two weeks, 281 entries performed in five different venues throughout Barrhead in categories such as spoken word, solo vocal and instrumental, among others.

Jennifer Thomas, Rotary Music Festival president, said while the performances at the concert were designed to showcase the best of the festival every one of the participants was a winner.

A sentiment echoed by Dr. Kent Bernes, a sponsor and a performer at this year’s festival.

“I watched a lot of performances,” he said. “The one thing each of the performers had in common as they walked off the stage was a big smile on their face. That’s the power of music.”

Barrhead Mayor Gerry St. Pierre congratulated all the participants, volunteers and sponsors that made the festival so successful and added events such as the Rotary Music Festival are a large part of the reason he and his wife remained in Barrhead.

“When we first arrived in Barrhead 30 years ago one of the reasons why we decided to stay and become part of this community was because of the generous spirit of the community,” he said. “And that is what each one of the participants of the festival have generously shown by sharing their amazing talents with everyone. Thank you all.”
