Preschool students graduated on June 3rd at the Barrhead Agrena.

Travis Vader was in Barrhead Provincial Court June 2 to face charges ranging from theft under $5,000 to careless use/possession of a firearm.

The Town and County of Barrhead are pursuing a $125,000 grant through the Regional Collaboration Program to help form a water services commission.

Fire bans across the entire province have been lifted, including in both the Town and County of Barrhead. Fire chief Gary Hove said the current weather conditions led to the decision to lift the total fire bans on May 26.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has filed notice with Canada Post that members intend to begin strike activities at 11:59 p.m. on June 2. In the event of a strike, Canada Post will not operate, meaning mail and parcels will not be delivered.

Barrhead and Westlock will host the 2013 55-Plus Summer Games. Tourism, Parks and Recreation Minister Cindy Ady made the announcement May 19 in Westlock.

It was still unclear as of May 20 whether Canada Post employees represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers would go on strike to protest the company’s latest offer.

The wildfire in Slave Lake remained out of control and had burned approximately 4,558 hectares as of May 19.

The wildfires that continue to rave Slave Lake are proof of how fast situations change, said the County's director of Disaster Management.

The County of Barrhead is digging into two paving project worth a combined total of more than $3 million. Crews will begin preparing Township Road 615A for paving within the next couple of weeks.
