It will be a night under the stars with a new classic on the silver screen. On June 4, in conjunction with the Vintage Tractor and Machinery Club’s annual show, residents will get to take in a classic drive-in movie.

For years, students at Westlock Elementary School have been hard at work selling ice cream to raise money for the school’s charity fund.

The Victoria Day long weekend marks the opening of both museums in Westlock. The Westlock Pioneer Museum kicks off the 2016 season with its annual pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, May 23. Admission is by donation.

A team Westlock-area firefighters was deployed to help battle an out-of-control blaze in Fort McMurray last week. On one-hour standby notice on Wednesday, May 4, crews officially got the call in the late afternoon.

As thousands of evacuees flee the 200,000-hectare, out-of-control Fort McMurray forest fire, now nicknamed “the beast”, the Town of Westlock has opened its campground to those passing through or taking temporary refuge.

Linda and Dean McCoy have been named the community’s volunteers of the year by the Clyde Agricultural Society.

Nearly 200 volunteers took in dinner and a night of entertainment at volunteer appreciation night last week.

It was a week of drama at R.F. Staples School. Students put their talent on display during the school’s one-act play competition on Tuesday, April 19, before the top two plays went on for encore performances at DramaFest April 21-23 at CATS Theatre.

Though there were some in favour, most families voiced concerns around the impact of a potential change to Pembina North Community School’s attendance area during an April 19 public meeting at Westlock Elementary School.

It was a night dedicated to some of Westlock County’s finest.
