Charges laid in Boyle woman's death

Mario Bernier, 55, of Regina will be in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court Sept. 17

Boyle - A Regina man has been charged with second-degree murder in the December 2019 death of Melissa Lyne of Boyle.

Mario Bernier, 55, was arrested in Regina Sept. 9 and transported to Alberta where he will appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court Sept. 17 to answer to the second-degree murder charge, along with one charge of arson and one charge of indignity to remains, in relation to a mobile home fire in Boyle Dec. 18, 2019, RCMP reported Sept. 15.

Boyle RCMP were called to the scene of the fire at approximately 5:40 a.m. Dec. 18, along with fire and emergency personnel, where they found the body of Lyne, 41, during the investgation. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was also called in to investigate and RCMP were able to file the charges this month.

Bernier was remanded into custody following a judicial hearing.
