WESTLOCK – A dozen people were ticketed Thursday, Feb. 18, for leaving their vehicles on streets designated for snow removal in what the Town of Westlock is calling a “focused enforcement” that’ll continue to keep the streets clear and operations staff safe.

The town confirmed that in addition to the 12, $120 tickets they issued under Bylaw 2015-05, five vehicles were towed, which comes with a $200 bill (if a vehicle isn’t claimed the same day from impound there’s an additional charge). Town bylaw enforcement also issued up to eight tickets with varying specified penalties under the Traffic Safety Act.

Crews will continue to clear roads tomorrow, Feb. 19, with town and Westlock County peace officers assisting in the process if needed — see the accompanying map for the streets in red being plowed Friday. For all updated plow locations and dates, visit the town’s website.

“Grading snow off streets is challenging even without obstacles, like parked cars and trucks,” said town director of operations Grant Gyurkovits. “While in operation, the grader is a very unpredictable piece of heavy equipment that can be thrown in a different direction at a moment’s notice while peeling frozen snow off the road. We all need to do our part to help the operations department complete this service safely and efficiently.”
