On the weekend of July 24-25, the Barrhead Orioles Peewee baseball team played host to a five-team tournament to determine who reigned supreme in Peewee Competitive Tier V Baseball.

The Westlock Grey Lions are playoff bound after capping off a successful Alberta West Central Baseball Association regular season with a win and a loss.

A pair of local seniors combined for five gold medals at the Alberta 55-plus Summer Games held July 16-19 in Strathmore. Westlock’s Valerie Oko won gold in the women’s 65-plus pickleball event, alongside teammate Rosa Semenchuk of Sturgeon County.

The Westlock Bantam ‘B’ Rock lacrosse team played their hearts out, but had the bronze medal snatched away from them in a 7-6 OT loss to the Wainwright Wolfpack at the Alberta Lacrosse Association’s Bantam ‘B’ Provincial Championship in Grande Prairi

When the North Edmonton Wizards Peewee ‘A’ won the provincial gold in Grande Prairie on July 12, it was with the help of two Westlock players.

The Barrhead Black Orioles played two games on Saturday, July 18. The first one, starting at 11 a.m., began without much of a bang – it was bright and sunny – the Orioles as the visitors, the Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox #2 as the home team.

Monday, July 6 night was a good night for the Barrhead Orange Orioles, not just because the weather – which had looked mildly threatening for much of the day – played nice, but also because they beat the visiting Stony Plains Royals.

Over 170 athletes from across Canada and around the world competed in this weekend’s Billy Loutit Triathlon in Athabasca. “This was a phenomenal success, one of the most competitive fields we’ve had,” said organizer Mark Francis.

Almost 40 people came out this weekend for the annual jet boat rally, in the perfect boating weather.

A total of six Athabasca soccer teams played in provincial competitions throughout Alberta this weekend. There were boys and girls teams representing three age divisions.
