TRASH is about training life champions.

It wasn’t their first rodeo. The population of Fort Assiniboine ballooned on Aug. 19 - 21 when hundreds of people descended on the quaint little town for the annual Hamlet Hoedown and Rodeo.

Westlock-area resident Alvin Nanninga earned top honours in his category at this year’s Canadian Horseshoe Championships in Blainville, Que. last month, beating out competitors from across the country.

Westlock’s 30-plus Red Lions wrapped up their season after playing in two weekend tournaments earlier this month. Their first tournament was the West Central Alberta Baseball Association wrap-up tournament Aug. 6-7 in St.

Westlock Gator Hannah Tabert brought home three silver medals from the provincial swim meet in Calgary Aug. 12.

The season may not begin until next month, but local gymnasts got off to a head start thanks to a special camp last week. The Athabasca FLIPS Gymnastics Club held the camp at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex from Monday to Friday.

Last week, Marci Kiselyk was back where it all began. The basketball star, a recent graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, was home in Athabasca to host a basketball camp at her old high school, Edwin Parr Composite.

The Athabasca Aces are going to take you to school. The senior ‘AA’ hockey team will host the annual Aces Hockey School at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex from Wednesday, Sept. 7 to Sunday, Sept. 11.

A Clyde athlete has returned from the Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops with a gold medal around his neck after out-wrestling the competition.
