The Athabasca Midget ‘A’ Hawks notched a pair of wins over Jasper last weekend to remain undefeated this season. The teams played a double header at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex, with one game on Saturday and the other on Sunday.

A stellar season came to an end for the Boyle School Huskies senior girls volleyball team last weekend. The girls were in Plamondon for the 1A provincial championships.

The R.F. Staples girls volleyball team brought home a bronze medal from the zone championships over the weekend in Barrhead, but will not be heading to provincials after falling in the semi-final to the hosts.

The St. Mary senior boys volleyball season continues as the team is headed for provincials after sweeping the North Central Zones championship over the weekend.

So far, life in the Western Hockey League is suiting Keegan Kanzig just fine. The native of Athabasca has played over 20 games with the Victoria Royals in this, his first season of major junior hockey.

Next stop, provincials. The Boyle School Huskies senior girls volleyball team continued their remarkable season by winning the zone championship last weekend.

The Barrhead Steelers went goal crazy against Strathcona Warriors, thumping them 8-2 in a bad-tempered encounter. Hat-trick hero Connor Tiemstra proved one of the Warriors’ chief tormentors with goals in each period.

The Barrhead gold rush continues. On Saturday, the senior boys and girls Gryphons struck gold in zone tournaments with displays rich in spirit and promise.

The Westlock Midget Sabres came out on top of the Camrose Cougars at the Jubilee Arena in Westlock last Friday night, encouraged by an enthusiastic crowd of more than 100 people. The local boys didn’t get the win without a fight, however.

A season of hard work and training all came together for two brothers at a Red Deer grappling tournament last Saturday.
