The area’s youngest hockey stars were on display Jan. 5 at the Rotary Spirit Centre at the 10-team Westlock Warriors Timbits Initiation Tournament.

Westlock’s Senior ‘AA’ Warriors are heading back to the drawing board after a rough 6-2 loss to the Devon Barons Jan. 4 at the Rotary Spirit Centre.

The Barrhead Bantam 1 Pirates won by the skin of their teeth on Saturday at the Barrhead Agrena, where they downed the visiting Leduc Bantam 1 squad 5-4.

Call it a case of “turkey fever.” The Barrhead Midget 2 Renegades kicked off the new year by going 1-1 in two home games at the Barrhead Agrena on Friday and Saturday.

The Barrhead Steelers go into the New Year sporting a perfect 12-0-0 record, thanks in part to a dominant performance. On Dec. 21, the Steelers defeated the Fort McMurray Junior Oil Barons in midget action at the Barrhead Agrena.

St. Mary School’s senior girls basketball team are off to a solid start claiming a silver medal at the season-opening Ice Breaker tournament in Hay Lakes Dec. 14-15.

The Midget Warriors posted a 1-2 week, playing three games in four days from Dec. 15 to 18. After caging the Athabasca Hawks in a 8-3 blowout Dec. 15, the Warriors lost 7-1 in Drayton Valley the next day before returning to home ice Dec.

The Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) Junior Varsity girls basketball team scored a silver medal at their second tournament of the year in Hinton over the Dec. 15-16 weekend.
