The Westlock Thunderbirds Football Club battled hard down the gridiron but it was the Wainwright Commandos who claimed a 28-6 on Friday Night Lights Sept. 22 at the Westlock Elementary School field.

Both Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) junior varsity volleyball teams won gold in the school’s annual Junior Varsity Invitational tournament. The Sept 23 tournament sported 10 teams split evenly between boys and girls.

The Edwin Parr Composite School Pacers football team were out-battled by the Wainwright Commandos Sept. 15 during an away game 52-15, again with a seriously short roster.

The St. Paul Lions mauled the Westlock Thunderbirds 48-6 during Westlock’s home-opener game Sept. 15. The loss placed the Thunderbirds 1-1 in the Wheatland Football League.

Pickleball committee members Judy Bohn, Dennis LeFleur and Chuck Nichols appeared in County of Barrhead council chambers Sept.

All golf carts were in use at the Athabasca Golf and Country Club during the annual Road to Hope Golf Classic Sept. 7. For the eighth annual golf tournament, 120 people showed up from Athabasca, Lac La Biche and farther.

Imagine trying to consistently shoot a margarine lid from a distance the length of ten power poles away.

They simply ran out of gas. After briefly being ahead of the Westlock Thunderbirds football team before half, the Athabasca Pacers finished off their first game of the season at home Sept. 8 with a score of 48-22.
