Senior Girls Gryphons player Tait de Vries bumps the volleyball towards the other side of the court while teammate Mira Agnew looks on. The match was between the Gryphons and the Camrose Trojans Oct. 14 as part of a two-day invitational tournament hosted by BCHS. While the match ended 25-24 for Barrhead, Camrose won the series.The Senior Gryphons lost in the quarter finals.

When Terry Ladan was growing up in Barrhead he wanted to learn karate. Unfortunately, at the time there were no karate club or instructors in the area so his want stayed exactly that, a want.

Despite a tough 38-0 loss to the St. Paul Lions Oct. 5, the Westlock Thunderbirds head coach says his team showed signs of life, but simply ran out of gas.

Sixty-two junior skaters hit the ice Sept. 26 for the start of the new Barrhead Fun Hockey season. Fun Hockey coordinator Shawn Stephani said although numbers were down by about 40 kids, he expects more registrants in the coming weeks.

Out of Westlock’s four entries in the R.F. Staples Invitation Tournament Sept. 29-30, the St. Mary senior boys took top honours with a second-place finish. Seventeen teams attended the event, with the Sharks falling to St.

Westlock’s newest crop of hockey players strapped on their helmets and took to the ice for Westlock Minor Hockey’s annual I Love Hockey event Sept. 30.

The Westlock Thunderbirds battled hard but, it was the Wainwright Commandos who claimed a 28-6 victory during Friday Night Lights on Sept. 22 at the Westlock Elementary School field.

Experience (mostly) won out over youth at the annual R.F. Staples Alumni Volleyball Tournament Sept. 23, which brought together eight teams of former T-Birds to play against the current squads.
