Garth Brian Bibby

Garth Brian Bibby was born January 2, 1942, at Mountain Park, Alberta – a mining town – and the highest town in the west. At 6 months old the family moved to a farm at Hazel Bluff. He began school at the Hazel Bluff one room school, transferring to Westlock in grade 4. His fondest memories of school centered around the horseback rides and shenanigans there and back! Horses became his passion and at 14 years old he was able to exchange the old “plow horse” for Red – a horse of his own. In 1961 he married his high school sweetheart Rose Zeise and they began what may be called an adventurous life. Garth went on to obtain a Forestry Technician Diploma and worked at that as He and Rose were building the farm they loved and worked on until 2013. Their children, Christine, Leane, and Carmen came along and as they grew, shared the farm, community life, and many trips to Garth’s beloved mountains, roaming the high peaks and valleys on horseback. Garth had a direct and mischievous personality and Rose was a poet which brought them to entertaining, telling stories in rhyme about incidents in their lives, a lot of them gleaned from Garth’s sayings and antics. As the five Grandsons entered his life, he was delighted to teach them “all he knew” –especially about ropin’ & ridin’. Garth was very community minded, directly involved with 4-H Clubs, Pembina Forage Association, Western Stock Growers, and Hazel Bluff Hall.

Garth will be lovingly remembered by his wife Rose and daughters

-    Christine (Wally) Lentz and their sons: Tom (Teri), (Blake & Cameron); Ethan (Shade & Alder); Bryan (Bryan Francisco).

-    Leane (Murray) Buxton and their sons: Stuart (Robin),(Kara, Cole & Clay); Morgan.

-    Carmen (Dale) Kay, stepsons Robert & Chris.

And: His Sister Joan Stanley, Brother Dick (Sandy) Bibby, In-laws, Nieces, Nephews, and Friends. Garth loved life and we were saddened as a muscle condition gradually took him from life and from us. We have so many stories and memories that will live on, confident in our minds that he’s off riding his cherished horses with dear friends and family who had crossed the great divide before him.

A “Send-off” for Garth will be held at Hazel Bluff Hall, February 17, 2:00 pm.
