In Loving Memory of

Siebren (Simon) de Groot

It is with deep love and gratitude that we announce the peaceful passing of Simon de Groot. Simon took his final steps on earth and was welcomed into his heavenly home on August 3, 2025, at the age of 95.

A beloved husband to Henny, Simon and Henny shared their love for almost 70 years! He leaves behind his children, Chris & Bob, Alfred (deceased) & Rita, Cliff & Claude, Clayton & Jackie, Teresa & Wes, Emma & Peter, Rita & Tim, Gene & Cindy, Jarvis & Heidi, Tim & Stephanie, Carla & Randy, as well as his sister, Wilma.

As Heit & Pake, he delighted in talking about days past. Farming talk was a given, as he loved being outdoors working on the land or spending time with the animals. Conversations around current events, social justice and all the things that made family celebrations enjoyable brought much laughter and animation from Simon. He delighted in the lives of his grandchildren and their families. More than 100 were privileged to call him Pake, Pake-Pake, or Old Pake. What a legacy!

Though Heit’s earthly presence is no longer with us, we take comfort in knowing that he has been welcomed into the arms of his Saviour and is enjoying time with loved ones who have gone before. Heit’s 95 years have given us a lifetime of memories to guide and comfort our hearts in the days and years ahead. He will be greatly missed!

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Shepherd’s Care in Barrhead, and to Dr. DeWaal for their exceptional care and compassion for Simon.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to support the Refugee Program. Donations may be made by cheque to Neerlandia Christian Reformed Church, with “Refugee Program” noted in the memo line.

A celebration of Simon’s life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Neerlandia Christian Reformed Church in Neerlandia, Alberta.

… tell the next generation, detail by detail the story of God, our God forever, who guides us till the end of time. Psalm 48:13-14 (The Message)
