FAIRHOLM, Albert John
December 24, 1944 - February 6, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Albert announce his peaceful passing on February 6, 2021.
He is mourned by Bernice, his wife of 52 years; his children Margaret, Richard (Tanis), Donna (Chris), Karen (Corin); his 9 grandchildren Kieran, Abby (Alex), Moriah, Maygen, Jyllian, Amira, Seth, Micah and Tristan; his siblings Dave (Judi) and Esther (Wayne); a large extended family and many friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Elsie and her husband Blake in 2017 and his parents Bill and Margaret.
Albert grew up in Pibroch and lived in the Westlock area for his entire life. In 1972, he moved with Bernice and their children to a farm in Hazel Bluff. They lived there until they sold the farm in 2008 and moved into town. Some would say that he retired from farming but really a farmer never retires, just relocates.
Albert was very active in the Westlock Gospel Chapel and AWANA clubs and no child thought that Sunday School was complete without getting a treat from ‘the Candy Man’.
Over the years, Albert and Bernice opened their home and took thirteen young men under their wings. Every one of them held a special place in their home and heart.
Albert loved being a Grandpa and took such joy in spending as much time as possible with all of his grandchildren. From the oldest at 24 to the youngest at 1, he loved them all and made them all feel very special. He loved sharing adventures with them: farming, gopher-hunting, quadding and fishing. He taught many of them to drive long before they should have learned – too many stories have been shared of him pulling someone out of the ditch.
Albert had many health conditions and medical issues over the years but was not someone who let those conditions restrict living his life to the full. A heartfelt thank you to all the homecare workers who showed such dedicated care and attention. But most of all, we are so grateful to the care that our mother provided as we know that particular care gave us more years with our dad.
He will forever be remembered with a twinkle in his eye and a cheeky grin.
We miss you Dad…
A celebration of life will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so.
