Manfred Gottfried John

Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:1-2

On November 2, 2023, at the age of 84, Rev. Manfred John went home to be with his Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Manfred is survived by his sons Steven (Laureen), Loren (Heather), Kevin (Chandra) and his daughter Karen (Jim) Johnston, along with his 12 grandchildren: Katie, Christopher (Dihan), Clay (Elin), Caleb (Rachel), Rebecca, Leah, Meghan, Ryan, Jenae, Danika, Nathan and Rachel. He is also survived by his sisters Ute Reininger, Ursula (Herbert) Bauer and his brother Christian (Stieni).

Manfred was predeceased by his dear wife Erika in 2016, his parents Karl and Hildegard, his sister Eleonore Bauer, and his brothers Eberhard and Hartmut.

Manfred was born in Lyck, East Prussia, Germany on February 24, 1939. In 1962, he immigrated to Canada and moved to the Barrhead area to pastor the Gardenview German Pentecostal Church. Manfred remained in Barrhead since that time, served in numerous churches and operated a beekeeping and honey trading business.

Manfred was a lifelong student of scripture, a voracious reader and loved history and story telling. He loved the outdoors and was particularly passionate about fishing. He lived his life with integrity, courage, and hope. Manfred will be deeply missed.

Visitation will take place on November 23rd from 6 to 8 pm at the Rose Garden Chapel in Barrhead. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday November 24, 2023, at the Barrhead Community Cemetery and the Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 pm at the Barrhead Alliance Church, with fellowship and lunch after the memorial service.

The family thanks Dr. de Waal and the many kind and compassionate staff at the Barrhead Healthcare Centre, who took wonderful care of Manfred during his last months.
