1945 - 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our husband and dad, Kenneth Ebeling, in the early morning of March 17th, 2020. Though born in Dauphin, Manitoba in May of 1945 his parents, John and Kathleen Ebeling, soon moved their small family to Lacombe, Alberta. Ken held a passion for Lacombe, Gull Lake just down the road, Bentley just beyond that and of course the farmstead in Westlock where he spent his summers. A decade later the family of five: John, Kathleen, Ken, Lynda, and Barbara - moved into Edmonton where he continued his school years, ultimately finishing them in Westlock. His life beyond this demonstrated his love for all people and the reverence with which he responded to the callings he felt from God. He was a man of truth and heart and dedicated both of these to the Rotary Club of Westlock over many years of service, the Reading Project that he activated in Westlock grade three classrooms, and very notably with his work at the Agua de Vida Orphanage in Morelos, Mexico. His work at the Orphanage becomes a lasting and loving legacy of our fathers; his efforts there were wrapped with every gift he ever possessed in life: purpose, compassion, action, intelligence and an ardent belief in something greater than himself. Dad perpetuated a selfless energy; his generosity compelled him to give…emotionally, spiritually and financially to others, especially those in moments of need. Because of this Ken helped to create balance in many lives: whenever a person felt a disparity he would fold into that life a piece of himself that would calm them and initiate the hope or healing they needed. We will not know another like him again, and because of this reality, we grieve for ourselves and others who have lost the care of his strong and loving hands. Ken is predeceased by his father, John, his mother, Kathleen, and his first wife of nearly 37 years, Bernice. Ken is survived by his second wife of nearly eleven years, Anne, sisters Lynda and Barbara (Bryan), brother-uncle Danny (Elaine), children Donna (Phillip), Debbie (Iain), Cory (Chistina), and his grandson Jonathan. We all thank him and feel so blessed for every moment he was our dad, brother, son, husband, and grampa. A Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 4th from 1:00-4:00 pm at The Westlock Funeral Home; a Memorial Service and Celebration of his Life are tentatively scheduled for the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Westlock Funeral Home for The Agua de Vida Orphanage Trust that will be established in Ken’s memory.
