Magill, Mari Alice, (Nee: Brock)

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our matriarch, Mari Alice Magill on August 15, 2023 at the age of 95 years.

Mari was survived by her 3 sons: James B. Magill, Donald Magill and Ross Magill (Diane Magill); four grandchildren: James D. Magill (Celeste Magill), Kristopher Magill (Karli Zacharuk), Michael Magill, and Katie Magill (Kyle Sommers); Two great-grandchildren; Benson Magill and Claire Magill as well as numerous extended family members and cousins in England and their families.

Mari was predeceased by her parents; father Charles Brock, mother Grace Brock (nee: East), step-father Harry Street. As well as her loving husband of 47 years, Alvin (Al) Magill, son Robert (Jack) Magill, daughter-in-law Janice Magill.

Mari was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba in 1928 where she grew up and graduated from high school. Mari attended Henderson Business College and then later worked in the local bank until her marriage to her husband Alvin in 1950. Mari and Alvin then moved to Alberta where they raised their family of 4 boys and made many friends. Mari lived in over 50 communities across Alberta while her husband Alvin worked in the electrical industry. They eventually retired to the Westlock area where they bought a farm to call home.

Mari was very active in each of the communities she lived in and was involved in many service clubs including the Royal Purple, Order of the Eastern Star, United Farm Women’s and United Church Women’s group. Mari volunteered many hours to these groups activities and often held the role of bookkeeper/treasurer. Mari also volunteered for the Westlock Thrift Store for several years.

A Celebration of Life and internment will be held at the Hazel Bluff church on August 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm with a lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mari’s name to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the East Wing of the Westlock hospital. Your care and support for mom will always be remembered.
