Edward George Markowski

July 12, 1940 – December 12, 2023

It is with great sadness and heartfelt sorrow to announce the passing of Ed Markowski, loving husband, father, gido, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor.

Ed resided on the family farm with his wife in the Athabasca area. The past 2 years were in Westlock at the Smithfield Lodge.

Ed leaves behind his loving wife Gladys of 57 years, 3 sons: Wayne, Ross (Shelly) and Clifford (Mercy); loving grandchildren: Alisa and Griffen, siblings: Alice, Victor (Lillian), and Kay; sister in law: Rose Diane (Kevin) and special niece: Sandi; along with numerous family members, good neighbors and friends.

Ed was predeceased by his parents: George and Katherine; siblings: Mary, Anne, Nancy Glen and Roy; and in-laws: Alex and Jennie Kostyk.

We would like to thank all the staff at Smithfield Lodge for the excellent care Ed received during his stay. We would also like to thank Dr. DaCunha and Theresa for all the years of care, comfort, and guidance.

A Viewing will be held Sunday, December 17th, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Athabasca Community Chapel.

A Memorial service will be held at the Colinton Community Hall at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18th, 2023 with Pastor Al Plat officiating.

Donations may be made in Ed’s honor to the Alberta Diabetes Association (1-020 Li Ka Shing Centre, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, T6G) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation (100 – 119 14 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6).
