Rowena Mae McCracken
Rowena passed away peacefully at the Continuing Care Center on December 11, 2023, at the age of 97. She was born on November 2, 1926, the youngest child of Ernest and Edith Stewart on the family farm in Kelwood, Manitoba. There she married Wilbert (Wib) McCracken and farmed there until they moved to Alberta in 1954.
Wib passed away in 2009. She was also predeceased by her brothers; James, Gordon, Cliff, Lloyd, Elmer, Lawrence and Norman, also her sisters; Thelma, Doreen and Eloise.
She will be sadly missed by her sons; David (Bev) grandchildren Kevin and Karen, and Ron (Donna) grandchildren Bryce, Kyle and Brittney. Her daughter; Patricia (Bryan) grandchildren Laurie, Trudie and Colin. Also, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and very dear friends.
Rowena worked in the old Auxiliary Hospital in Westlock for several years. She also enjoyed doing lots of needle work and baking, of which she received many red and blue ribbons and the local fair. She did lots of curling in her younger years and watched lots of curling in her later years. She was very proud of the "8 ender" her team scored in a bonspiel. She worked many hours as a volunteer for the Westlock Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and their gift shop. She was also a very dedicated member of the Westlock United Church.
A memorial for her will be arranged at a later date.
