MEAKIN, William “Gordon”

It is with deep sadness that the family of Gordon Meakin announces his passing on September 19, 2023, at the age of 91 years.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years Pat, his five children: Janice (Arnold) Piontkowski, Wayne (Linda) Meakin, Pam (Peter) Gonnet, Wade (Sherry) Meakin, Norine (Ken) Schuster, 10 grandchildren, & 17 great-grandchildren. His sister Joan Gillard, brothers Stuart (Lou) Meakin, Syd (Anna) Meakin, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Neil & Joyce Thompson.

He was predeceased by his parents Warwick & Gladys Meakin, brothers-in-law Bob Gillard, Clayton Thompson & Ralph Thompson.

He left his family farm and moved to Edmonton and began his career as a floor layer. However, farming and animals were his true passion, so he moved Pat and four young kids out to a bush-covered quarter one mile from where he grew up. With a lot of work clearing brush, they moved a house onto it. Their last child was born a few years later. In 1967 he purchased another farm 3 miles west of Alcomdale where they lived until 2009 until his health began to decline and they moved to Westlock. Over the years he was a 4-H Leader and a director on the Alberta Charolais Association Board.

As per his wishes, there is no service planned. A small celebration of life for family will be held later. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Coulson for all her wonderful care she has given him over the years.
