Dorothy Marion Overacker

Dorothy Marion Overacker, aged 103, passed away peacefully on May 15th, 2025 in Athabasca. Born January 27, 1922, in Lamont, Alberta, Dorothy was the oldest child of Alexander and Palma Lennie.

Dorothy spent her first few years with her family in the Tofield and Chipman area until her parents moved their family to Athabasca in 1930 where she remained her entire life. In 1939 Dorothy married Clifford Overacker and started their family which eventually included 7 children and many foster children. They resided in several locations throughout the Athabasca area, including in town. They eventually ended up settling on the farm on Ferguson Road, turning the original Ferguson School House, built on land donated by her father, into their family home. She remained there until moving to town in 2024.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, brothers Lester and Don, sisters Beulah and Evelyn, husband Clifford, children Verne, LeRoy, and Wilfred, daughters-in-law Charlotte and Frances, and grandchildren Richard and Janeen.

She is survived by her siblings Alice Hutchings, Gordon Lennie, Rodney Lennie, Diane Kozinuk, and Sheila (Bill) Kostiw; children Wayne (Maxine), Lorraine (Edward) Wiselka, Joe, Barry Belcourt, daughter-in-law Jan and Mary. She had a very large family with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her extensive family includes numerous nieces, nephews, and friends which she cherished and loved as well.

Dorothy was deeply involved in her community through the Church, Women's Hospital Auxiliary, Farmers Market, and Amber Valley Community Association. She was known and Gram, Grandma O, Mrs. Overacker, Dorothy, Auntie and Mom. She enjoyed baking bread, gardening, berry picking, coffee and tea with visitors, conversation, lending a listening ear, touring the country, and her unconditional love for her family.

Funeral services were held at All Saints Anglican Church in Athabasca on Friday, May 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made to the Anglican Church or any charity of choice.
