With deep sadness, we announce that Darlene Verle Pearson (McConaghy), aged 84, passed away peacefully at Westlock Continuing Care Centre on December 7, 2021, with family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Dean Pearson, her father Douglas McConaghy, sister Karen Willis and brother Bill McConaghy.

She leaves to mourn her sons Shawn (Lorraine) Pearson, Blaine (Janice) Pearson, daughters Shannon (Wayne) Scott and Daneen (Andy) Cariou, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Darlene is survived by her mother Vera McConaghy and siblings Jim (Millie) McConaghy, Noni (Butch) Graling, Fred (Nora) McConaghy, Danny (Louise) McConaghy, Shannon (Dwayne) Walterhouse, Tracey (Dorey) McConaghy and Dean (Kathy) McConaghy.

Darlene was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on March 9, 1937, the eldest of 10 children. She joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1956 and was stationed in Northern Quebec along the DEW line, serving for one year working in the clerical field and then moving back to Alberta. She later married Dean on January 31, 1964, in Edmonton. Darlene and Dean lived in several different places within Northern Alberta, finally retiring in Clyde, AB.

Darlene worked in the banking industry for several years; worked alongside Dean, operating a bulk fuel station for several years; owned her own women’s clothing store called Darlene’s Fashions, was Post Mistress in Red Earth, a bookkeeper for Smokie Oilfield, and a few other jobs along the way. She loved to camp, curl, shop and gather with family and friends. She and Dean became snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona, in their retirement.

A memorial service will be held at Westlock Funeral Home on Saturday, January 8,2022, at 1:00 p.m. A livestream will be available to view by visiting www.westlockfuneralhome.com on Darlene's obituary. A luncheon will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Westlock. Private interment to take place on a later date.

Please be advised that COVID protocol will be followed, and vaccine records are mandatory to attend the service.
