Wally Sczebel

November 2, 1924 – April 10, 2021

On April 10, 2021, Wally (Walter) Sczebel won his battle with cancer and moved on to heaven to hear “Well done good and faithful servant”, and to reunite with family and friends who have gone on before. He is survived by Roseanna, the love of his life for 74 years, his loving daughter Ione (Garry Rea), his one remaining sibling Pearl Humble, and many nieces and nephews with their extended families.

Wally was a man who had a deep love for God and authentic faith in action. With his wife, he co-founded Teen Time of Edmonton in 1964 where he tirelessly and sacrificially gave of his time, talents, money and most of all, hearts of love to the youth. His ever-present love, faith and steady hand were a stabilizing factor in the lives of many youth – through whom his legacy now lives on.

Wally was a presence bigger than his stature. His message “Where Love is Felt, the Message is Heard” resonated with all who knew him. He and Roseanna were recognized with numerous civic and national awards, including Caring Canadians awarded by the Governor General and The Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship.

Wally’s guidance, encouragement and hugs will be deeply missed by all his “families”: his Sczebel family, his Medcke family, his Teen Time family, his Love According to John family, his Rotary family, his Church family, his business associates, his coffee klatch and his many friends.

Roseanna and Ione wish to thank staff at the Sturgeon Hospital, Units 15 & 17 with special thanks to Dr. Leon Lefebvre. We cherish your gentle care and guidance especially during the last few weeks.

It is the family’s wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following charities:

The Wally and Rosanna Kids to Kamp Fund (Edmonton Community Foundation, 9910 – 103 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta T5K2V7, phone 780-426-0015)

Teen Time of Edmonton (12235-50 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T5W 3C7, phone 780-466-8530)

Due to Covid restrictions, a Celebration of Wally’s Life will be recorded and made available via the internet in the near future. Please watch the Westlock Funeral Home and Crematorium website or Teen Time website https://www.teentime.ab.ca/ or westlockfuneralhome.com for updates.
