SINCLAIR/BON, DONNA

Donna Joan Sinclair/Bon (nee Smith) passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 93 after a short illness. Donna was born on May 10, 1932, in New Westminster, BC. The youngest of four, after her mother died when she was 12, she lived throughout Western Canada with various relatives.

As an adult, she served in the Canadian Air Force as a radar operator for 2 years then worked as a cook in Rockyford AB, when she met her future husband Gerritt Bon and they married on December 29, 1956. After chasing the drilling rigs for a few years and two girls, they eventually settled in the Westlock area where they had a son and bought some land. Donna had a love of cooking, and nobody ever left the farm hungry and without some to take home. Giving was a way of life for her with time, food, and advice freely handed out. Small in stature but large in heart, Donna was never afraid to voice her opinion and stand up for those that needed it. She will be forever in the hearts of those she helped. Gerritt’s death on December 30, 2004, started a change in Donna’s life. No longer able to be on the farm, she spent the remainder of her years in Seniors’ facilities. This is where she met her second husband, Donald Sinclair. They were married on March 27, 2018, and the years they spent together seemed to make them younger. Sadly, Don passed away on November 6, 2022. Donna spent her remaining years with family close by, and especially her great-grandchildren, spoiling them and all around with her treats for all occasions.

Donna was predeceased by her sister Marjorie Houlden, brothers Bob and Jack Smith all of BC, husband Gerritt Bon, husband Donald Sinclair. and son-in-law Bradley LaBonte.

Remaining to cherish Donna’s life are daughters Marion, Cathy (Danny Klemp), son Kelly (Chris), grandchildren Michael (Nikki), Kilian, Matthew, Coyne, Andrew, Halle, Jordan, and great-grandchildren Michael and John. She is also survived by her half sister Marylin.

A special thank you to the staff at the Smithfield Lodge, Pembina Lodge, Continuing Care, Dr. Mydeen and Dr. Newnham, and any other medical staff that gave us the gift of so many years with Mom.

As per Donna’s wishes, a private ceremony will be had followed by cremation. Memorials or donations can be made to Little Warriors, a charity close to Donna’s heart.
