ULMER, Roy Stewart
September 12, 1938 - August 26, 2022
It is with much love and wonderful memories, the family of Roy Stewart Ulmer of Barrhead, AB, announce his peaceful passing in the arms of his wife, Diana, on August 26, 2022 at the age of 83.
He was born on September 12, 1938 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB. At the age of 6 months, he and his parents relocated from Stony Plain, AB to the family farm in the Mellowdale community near Barrhead, AB. Roy met the love of his life in Lethbridge, AB. It was love at first sight and he often said he heard bells ringing. Roy and Diana celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary June 12 of this year.
Roy lived life to the fullest until his passing. His strong faith provided courage and determination to face life’s challenges including many years of declining health. He had a love of sports especially baseball, hockey, golf and curling. Roy’s outgoing and dynamic personality enabled him to excel in sales throughout his life. He was a pillar of his community serving on both county and town councils as well many other volunteer positions. Time was irrelevant to Roy, as what mattered most was taking an interest and engaging with everyone he met. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Diana Ulmer; four daughters, Gwen (Lorne) Vanderwoude, Melody Ulmer (Mark Myrehaug), Shauna (Martijn) Zeldenrust, Sherri (Adam) Budgen; nine grandchildren, Matthew (Shona) Myrehaug, Emily Myrehaug, Rebecca Myrehaug (Jared Froese), Joel Zeldenrust, Chesney Zeldenrust, Hunter Budgen, Paisley Budgen, WyattBudgen and Sadie Budgen; two great-grandchildren, Breckan Shaw and Malia Myrehaug.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Mary Ann Ulmer; foster son, Gordon Sheremeta; parents, Walter and Anna Ulmer; sister, Karan Gregoire, as well as many close family and friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Barrhead Alliance Church.
