As a long-time (and now retired) resident of the Calling Lake community it was my privilege to attend the September 15 community meeting hosted by the Athabasca RCMP.

Why did the chicken cross the road? Apparently to irritate their neighbours.

Four or five months ago, rural Albertans were crying out for relief from what they perceived to be a massive increase in crime.

In my Town of Barrhead council story about the Blue Heron Fair Days parade, I start off by saying everyone loves a parade. And I believe that is true. However, as the story goes on to say, not everyone is happy with the route.

In response to Allendria Brunjes Sept. 11, T&C column, “Our right to choose.” I agree with the writer’s statement about “my body, my belly”. We can make choices that affect only our body.

Dear Editor, I’ve been a dairy farmer near Barrhead for 41 years. I farm here with my wife, daughter and son-in-law. I’d like to weigh into the debate on supply management, as it’s important in our agricultural community.

Solving crime in Calling Lake is going to take a strong acknowledgement and understanding of Indigenous issues.

With the helicopter hovering over Westlock, the road spikes in their place and the police dogs deployed, the RCMP’s province-wide Crime Reduction Unit took two alleged criminals off the streets Sept. 1 and laid 37 charges against the two individuals.

Dear Editor, I was gob smacked to read that the County of Barrhead council unanimously approved an unbudgeted expense of $400.00 to former reeve Bill Lee to drive his personal automobile in three parades this summer.

Dear Editor, As a Barrhead resident, I was horrified and disgusted with what I read in the Leader in regards to the loss of business for Leals & Teals restaurant and others on that street.
