WESTLOCK – A 30-year-old man facing an attempted murder charge had an appearance scheduled in Westlock Court of Justice on Sept. 11. He didn’t attend in person and instead, a lawyer appeared on his behalf.
An agent for lawyer Gary Smith asked the court to adjourn the matter to Oct. 9, saying that defence is waiting for disclosure.
The man was arrested after a brief manhunt last month. Westlock RCMP had responded at about 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 23 to a report of a stabbing at a home off Highway 44 near Township Road 603 in Westlock County. Officers found an adult who had been stabbed and needed medical attention. The victim is expected to recover, say police.
Police say the accused fled into a wooded area in Westlock County after the stabbing. He was arrested about six hours later.
RCMP had also issued an Alberta Emergency Alert for the Westlock County area advising people not to open their door to strangers or pick up any hitchhikers.
