WESTLOCK COUNTY - A Fire Control Order has been issued as of July 31 for a wildfire located in Hubert Lake near Fawcett. It is currently classified as under control and it is being reported that there is no risk that the fire will spread.
This order means that no new fire permits will be issued for any non-essential heavy fuel burning including windrows, machine piled brush piles and yard cleanup. All existing fire permits remain valid but the county has reiterated that residents should check previous burning sites for proper extinguishment.
In accordance with the order, any exploding targets and tracer rounds, backcountry wood fit pit on public lands or unsupervised campgrounds and the use of fireworks are prohibited.
The following approved activities should be used with caution and the proper extinguishing equipment should be within reach while in use:
- Backyard fire pits
- Burn Barrels shall be constructed of non-combustible material, shall be free of damage, shall be covered with a tight-fitting metal mesh screen with openings not more than 6 mm in size, shall be located on a non-combustible material base, and shall be located at least 3 meters away from any combustibles.
- Incinerator Regulated Under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.
- Portable propane fire pits, that are CSA approved or UL certified.
- Safe Wood Fire in a registered private campground.
- OHVs that has a spark arrestor with CSA approval
