The Westlock Golf Club Men’s League wrapped up on July 24 with Team Landry coming out on top.
The team made up of Denis Landry, Joe Kuhar, Aaron McNelly, Sheldon Allen and Kyle Laughy were the ultimate champions with the league championship being won by only one point more than the second-place Team Hoglander made up of Ryan Hoglander, Ryan Provencal, Brian Saunders and Rick Provencal.
“He and his team played really well,” said Ryan Craig, president of the Westlock Golf Club on Team Landry. “All five of those guys have been around the club for a long time and I don't think they've ever won before. It’s cool to see.”
The season ran from May 15 to June 24. The season was planned to end earlier on July 17 but was rained out several times.
Season points were scored based on winning games in various formats including two-man scrambles, one-on-one match play and one-on-one stroke play.
There were 18 teams in total this season with 72 players.
“When I came back three years ago, men's league was at a point where there was just a drop and there was maybe 10 to 20 people each week. Seeing 72 people from around the area come and support the league and have a lot of fun is definitely something that's awesome to see,” said Craig. “I would just say the support you see from everyone around the area, it's special to see it in a community like this.”
The full league standings ended with Team Landry on top with 36 points, followed by Team Hoglander (35 points), Team Hardinge (31 points), Team Lewko (30 points), Team Casavant (29 points), Team Wingrove (27 points), Team Westlock Motors (24 points), Team Calzmadia (24 points), Team Glebe (23 points), Team Mueller (22 points), Team Latrielle (22 points), Team Pickrell (17 points), Team Vesely (17 points), Team Medcke (14 points), Team Vandelagemaat (10 points), Team Hanson (10 points), Team Dyck (10 points) and Team Luced (9 points).
The Westlock Golf Club has several other tournaments planned this summer including the Westlock Open Aug. 9-10, the Par 3 Shootout fundraiser on Aug. 23, the Westlock Chamber tournament on Sept. 6 and the Club Championships Sept. 13-14.
