Westlock County Fire Department responded to a call on July 31 at approximately 7:30 p.m. after a small fire broke out on a farm North of the Village of Clyde.
A small piece of farming equipment collided with a rock, igniting the surrounding area. The farmer was quick to call the department, where they were able to put it out before it grew.
John Biro, Fire Chief for Westlock County, said that there was minimal damage to the hay swats and that there were no injuries reported.
The farmer had some water on hand that was used in an attempt to extinguish the fire. Biro said that farmers should always keep some water on hand, especially during this dry season, whether it is a pick-up with a pump attached or a bucket of water.
Farmers should be cautious, as it is not uncommon for small fires to break out in fields when equipment collides with nature.
