WESTLOCK - Emergency services responded to a call about an accident on Highway 44, 12 km north of the Town of Westlock on June 25 at approximately 4:00 p.m. when a semi-truck rear-ended a Pembina Hills area school bus.
During the afternoon bus run, the school bus was turning left onto Township Road 604 when a semi-truck hit their rear bumper. The semi-truck swerved into the ditch to avoid any further damage.
The Pembina Hills school division issued a news release on June 26 indicating that the bus driver and eight students on the school bus were unharmed. There are currently no updates on the state of the semi-truck driver at this time. Another bus was dispatched to finish the route and ensure the kid's safety.
Fire crews, EMS, RCMP, and police officers were on the scene to manage the flow of traffic and work to extricate the semi-truck from the ditch.
