Peter Beckett’s first-degree murder trial is on the move.
At his June 25 court appearance in Salmon Arm Provincial Court in British Columbia, Beckett applied for a change of venue to Kamloops, B.C., said court employee Glen Lucier.
That application was accepted, and Beckett’s next court appearance will now be on July 4 in Kamloops.
During his June 25 appearance, Beckett filed two applications, Lucier said. The first was the venue change; the second was to restart his preliminary hearing.
“It partially started here in Salmon Arm and didn’t conclude,” he said. “He’s applied to have it start again from the beginning.”
Lucier said the preliminary hearing application was not heard, and will now follow Beckett to Kamloops. Whether that application will be heard during his July 4 appearance is unknown.
What will likely happen is the matter will be discussed and a future date will be set to hear the application.
