Westlock County issues Fire Control Order on May 23, 2025.

On Friday May 23, Westlock County issued a Fire Control Order in accordance with Bylaw 56-2024 section 11.0 for lands located outside the Forest Protection Area.

This restriction means no new fire permits will be issued for any heavy fuel burning machines that are not essential but have said that all other fire permits will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, safe wood fires in a registered private campground, and OHV’s that have a spark arrestor are allowed as long as they are approved by the CSA and used per manufacturer standards.

The county stresses the importance of fire safety after the State of Local Emergency was terminated on May 13. In their news release, they talk about supervising and extinguishing all fires during the windy, dry conditions while also keeping water, fire blankets and extinguishing equipment on hand.
