The Westlock and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has been running a food prep program for seniors with great success since 2023.
The Help at Home for seniors meal prep program was originally started through the FCSS Home Support Program.
“People were always wanting some help with food prep and for seniors that stay in their homes, nutrition is important,” said FCSS program coordinator Maureen Schiller. “I think it's a good program for seniors. It gets them out socializing and gives them a few different food options.”
The program assists seniors (55+) in meal prep for several healthy meals they can bring home. The latest session in Vimy included meal prep for lemon pepper chicken, crispy mustard pork chops and ground beef sliders.
The program hosts several sessions a month with usually one session in town and one in the county.
The program has been an overwhelming success for the FCSS, so much so that they’ve had to limit people to sign up for only one session per month to not immediately fill available spots.
