Westlock men’s walk and talk highlights community space for men

The weekly Westlock men’s walk and talk hosted their first walk on Wednesday evening May 21.

The weekly Westlock men’s walk and talk hosted their first walk on Wednesday evening May 21.

The event organizer Garrett Clark said the purpose of the walk was to provide a space for men to be in community and support each other, especially in a society where men often feel isolated.

“Giving men the opportunity to get out of the house and just be themselves is what this is all about,” said Clark. “A lot of men struggle to make connections and we get a lot of new people moving to town, so this is a great opportunity for them to come and meet some new people.”

The walk began at the Whisselville Pond-Lagoon before doing a loop around town, lasting around an hour.

Clark said intention to host a weekly walk despite the low turnout. He noted the walk was unfortunately on the same evening as game one of the Oilers series against the Stars, as well as rainy weather throughout the day, possibly playing a factor in attendance.
