Flatbush rocks!

The Flatbush Community Complex was packed on Saturday night as dozens of people turned out to see Canadian band Honeymoon Suite, known for such hits as Stay in the Light and New Girl Now. Pictured are lead guitarist Derry Grehan and singer Johnnie Dee rocking out on stage. Along with raising money for the community centre, a 50/50 draw was held with the proceeds going to the W.R. Frose School hot lunch program.

An 86-year-old woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash near Busby on July 13. The collision occurred at around 6 p.m.

A two-vehicle collision at Range Road 271 and Township Road 580 on Friday evening claimed the life of an 86-year-old woman. This vehicle was travelling south when it struck a second vehicle, sending it into an open pit along the west side of RR 271. Burning peat moss in Westlock County is no longer allowed. That was the declaration made by county councillors following an in camera session at their June 26 meeting.

Hot Wheels!

Henry Lipka polishes up the engine of his 1935 Chevy pickup at the Westlock Wheels of Class Show and Shine on Sunday. It took Lipka two years and hundreds of hours to restore the truck to its former glory. It does have a hood, but he said he prefers to drive without it because he likes the look and the reactions he gets from people he drives past. Happy 145th!

Hundreds of people gathered in the field behind the rec centre last Sunday night to help celebrate the 145th anniversary of Confederation. A musical performance preceded an impressive fireworks display. See Pages 12-13 of the print edition for more photos of the day's festivities.
