Hillcrest Lodge has proved one again that it really does pay to recycle. After raising $1,600 last year, residents have surpassed this number with a grand total of $2,554 worth of recycled bottled.

It was called “Music for a Winter’s Night.” From the opening notes of the Grade Eight/Nine/Senior Band it was clear this was going to be a heart-warming occasion at the Barrhead Composite High School east gym, banishing the chill outside.

It takes a lot to upset Scotty Smith. But recently it happened, so much so he was shaking with emotion. The Nov. 30-Dec. 2 weekend was a tough one in the 70-year-old’s eventful life.

The Barrhead Elementary Gym was bursting with holiday cheer over the weekend, as the Festival of Trees Christmas Market and Craft show finally arrived. Between 600 and 800 people wandered the gym Friday evening and Saturday.

RCMP are continuing their search for a semi-driver involved in a hit and run on Highway 43 near Mayerthorpe. The accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, leaving a man with a broken leg, hip and pelvis.

It was performance number 611, so a little fatigue could be expected. Yet that wasn’t the case. So emotionally charged was Julia Mackey’s performance of Jake’s Gift on Friday night that this could have been the premiere.

When playwright-actress Julia Mackey wrote her first one-act play in 2006 she could see herself performing it for a couple of weeks.

Last weekend saw the final two productions this season of Fort Assiniboine’s Journey to Bethlehem, an outdoor pageant celebrating the Nativity. More than 100 volunteers contributed to the drama, from actors to stagehands, along with live animals.
