Gerry St. Pierre is hoping to make a comeback to Barrhead Town Council – as Mayor. A councillor between 1998 and 2004, St. Pierre disclosed last Monday that he was throwing his hat into the mayoral ring.

Barrhead’s community garden, which officially opened in May, has since exploded with life. The plots that were once mere squares of dirt are now lush and full of life.

It’s a hell of a thing walking into a store and asking to try on women’s high-heeled shoes. If you’re a man, that is. You surely must have guts, a sense of humour and a powerful motivation.

The Blue Heron Walking Trail offers a 10-kilometre trip through some of Barrhead’s most scenic landmarks. Now it also promises a journey through some of Barrhead’s rich history, thanks to dozens of signs recently erected along the trail.

The proposed $12 million Stony Valley gravel project should be presented to Barrhead County Council in October or November. It follows three years of talks between developers and landowners, Barrhead County and Lac Ste.

They jumped, they twirled, they stood on their heads. A hop here, a leap there, a display of acrobatics in between.

Brian Schulz will not be seeking a fifth term as Mayor. After one spell as Town councillor and four consecutive terms as Mayor, Schulz believes it is time to bow out of local government.

Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop … Like a giant red insect, its wings beating frenetically, the AW139 helicopter descended from an overcast sky onto a patch of Barrhead grass.

There I stood on a stranger’s dock, stranded like a modern-day Robinson Crusoe, waving frantically at passing vessels. Between the gesticulating, I managed to grab a few photographs.

It was a three-day party that brought out the best in Barrhead. Even the elusive sun joined the festivities. The Blue Heron Fair Days demonstrated to one and all that the town knows how to have a blast.
