After retiring from R.F. Staples School nearly 15 years ago, Pembina Lodge resident Anne Sloniowski walked through the doors last Tuesday morning to work with junior high students in the cooking lab once again.

It’s full steam ahead for the River Rats Festival’s entertainment subcommittee, with this year’s entertainment lineup quickly coming together.

Is Somebody Singing? In fact, all of the Grade 1-6 students at Dapp School were doing so on May 6, as part of the nationwide sing-along called Music Monday. Music Monday is an annual event first launched by the Coalition for Music Education in 2005.

Last Monday’s Powerband concert, comprising students from R.F. Staples and Barrhead Composite High School, was a “complete success,” said RFS music director Anne-Marie Switzer. The concert took place on May 6 at R.F.

Canadian fiddle champion Scott Woods will once again play in Athabasca. Last year the fiddle legend show filled the Nancy Appleby Theatre, and Woods was impressed with the turnout. He will be returning this year on May 29.

A number of representatives from the United Voices of Edmonton Choir were in Athabasca last Friday on reconnaissance at the United Church.

The Westlock Art Club’s annual spring sale and exhibition was a success. The gallery exhibited work from roughly 22 club artists, and about 19 of Betty Wysosky’s students, at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre on April 26-27.
