They needed to overcome an early deficit, but the Westlock Red Lions got back into the win column with a tight 3-1 win over the visiting Sherwood Park Athletics at Keller Field last Wednesday.

Westlock’s under-18 girls soccer team wrapped up its strong regular season with two games Sunday at home against Athabasca. The first game ended in a 2-0 for Westlock, while the second game started at 3 p.m.

The Trappers squirts girls team from Athabasca Minor Ball played their last games of the season at a year-end tournament right here in town last weekend.

The softball season came to an end for Athabasca’s Bantam Girls Trappers with a tournament at Jewell Park. Six teams competed at the tournament, all of them playing three games.

Through the sun and the rain, Barrhead bantam baseball players were at it again over the weekend playing in a two day tournament at the field beside the agrena.

Barrhead Composite High School held their annual Athletic Banquet to recognize the accomplishments and efforts of their talented athletes Wednesday, June 13.

A strong 6-2 win over the visiting Stony Plain Codgers at Keller Field last Thursday leaves the Westlock 30-Plus Red Lions in sole possession of the top spot in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association.

Although soccer has long been the world’s most popular sport, nobody it seems passed on the news to Barrhead. Or the rest of Canada for that matter.

The Barrhead PeeWee Yankees played in a hometown tournament this weekend, winning one out of their four games. The weekend seemed to get off to a good start, as Barrhead took on Stony Plain in their first game Friday night.
