Young athletes received recognition for all their hard work this year at last week’s Edwin Parr Composite Athletics Banquet.

The Bryan Mudryk Golf Classic’s 10th anniversary event shattered all expectations last weekend. In the weeks and months leading up to the event, organizer Terry Mudryk had her sights set on breaking the $150,000 fundraising mark.

The Athabasca U18 Anarchy boys soccer team kept their dominant season going with a gold medal win at the Camrose Night Classic on the weekend. The club played four games over the weekend and won them all.

The U14 Celtic boys soccer team from Athabasca had a pair of successful showings at recent tournaments. On the first weekend in June they were in the city for the Slurpee Cup, where they went all the way to the final and won the gold medal.

The rain pelted down in the morning, but Barrhead junior high students kept their athletic powder dry to put on a good display in St. Albert.

The Barrhead baseball diamonds saw a lot of action over the weekend as six Barrhead County Ball Midget teams competed in a action packed two-day tournament. The tournament ran from 7 p.m. Friday night to around 5 p.m.

The R.F. Staples track team came home with two medals and a dozen personal bests after the provincial track meet in Edmonton last weekend.
