For the first time in three years, it looks as though Red Lions fans will have an opportunity to see the boys play a semi-final game on their home turf this year.

The Westlock Golf Club’s annual Men’s Open Tournament drew golfers from across the northern Alberta to town last weekend to compete for the top spot.

For Marci Kiselyk, excelling at one sport just isn’t good enough. The Athabasca native is a standout on the basketball court and recently completed a successful five-year career on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s team.

The second annual Jeff Johnson Road To Hope Golf Classic is almost here. The event will be held at the Athabasca Golf and Country Club on Friday, August 26.

Kids from the community are getting all the activity they can handle throughout the summer. The Barrhead Recreation Department is providing recreational programs designed to get the kids out of the house and into the beautiful parks of Barrhead.

The 2011 Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games concluded after three successful days of competition. Athletes from Zone 5, which includes Barrhead and Swan Hills, made off with a medal haul that would rival countries participating in the mainstream Olympics.

Several dozen Westlock and area competitors did our region proud at the recent Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games in Fairview, with a dozen bringing home some hardware.

After completing their regular season, the Westlock Wild Pee Wee minor ball team is gearing up for its Tier 2 provincial tournament July 29 to Aug. 1 in Strathmore.
