There will be no shortage of excitement at the annual Boyle Rodeo this weekend. The event will run from Friday to Sunday at the Boyle Agricultural Society Grounds.

The U12 Athabasca Black Widows girls soccer team wrapped up their season on a high note last weekend. The girls made the trip to Edson to compete in the provincial championships.

Two well-earned wins last week extended the Westlock Red Lions’ winning streak to six games, settling them solidly into second place in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.

Despite not having a league to play in all year, the Jarvie Jaguars pee wee girls softball team finished the season on a high note.

Two more strong pitching and defensive performances have the Westlock Red Lions riding high on a four-game winning streak. “We’re a real juggernaut these days,” said coach Ryan Rau.

Minor hockey associations around the world invariably create players who go on to become the best of the best, and this week one of Westlock’s own rising stars is getting the opportunity to shine.

It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to say that Harley-Ann DeLeeuw has lived most of her life on the back of a horse. The 14-year-old native of Athabasca has been riding horses since she was four.

After years of having two identities, Edwin Parr Composite’s student athletes will soon be united under one. As local sports fans will know, the EPC boys sports teams have been known as the Pacers for many years.

Edwin Parr Composite’s student athletes were celebrated at the annual athletic banquet last week.

They gathered around home plate, bowed their heads and took time to reflect, remember and give thanks to their teammate and coach, Gerald Nanninga.
