There were no surprises at the Westlock and District Minor Hockey Association’s Annual General Meeting April 20, said returning president Dean Fagnan. “It was a good meeting,” he said.

The Barrhead Minor Hockey Association is facing some tough decisions, even before the start of the 2011/12 season.

A local woman will be stripping down on June 18 to help fight for a cause that is close to her heart.

The region’s best badminton players put their skills to the test in a pair of competitions held locally last week. On Thursday, April 28, both Boyle School and the Athabasca Regional Multiplex hosted badminton regional events.

For one weekend in May, Athabasca will officially be Oil Country. The Edmonton Oilers hockey club will bring their annual development camp to the Athabasca Regional Multiplex May 13-15.

It’s almost time to start breaking out the golf gear. All the snow is almost gone, and that means the Barrhead Golf Club will be welcoming bookings for tee times.

Running the Boston Marathon will be something Colleen Bauer will never forget. “It was an amazing experience. Even the whole winding up to it and the actual marathon was fantastic,” said Colleen Bauer.

The long winter may finally be giving way to spring, but it will be missed by some talented local skiers. The Tawatinaw Valley Freeriders had another successful season in 2010-11, with 20 kids hitting the slopes throughout the winter months.

The ice may be gone, but the work continues for Boyle Minor Hockey. The organization held its annual general meeting last week.
