The hockey season is all but over for the midget Boyle Blazers.

They set out at the start of the season with clear goals in mind. On March 19, the Barrhead pee wee Flyers visited the Whitecourt Brutes for Game 2 of the league championship final.

The Athabasca Hawks and the Boyle Blazers fell short of provincial glory in Coronation last weekend. Both of the bantam teams took part in the event, and even opened up the tournament by facing each other on Friday.

The atmosphere was electric at the Alberta Cheerleading Association’s annual Total Spirit Championships on the weekend. Four local cheer squads were in the city to take part in the event, which was held at the West Edmonton Mall.

With their season in the balance, the Barrhead Renegades squared off against the Edson Sabres in a lively tilt, which could have been mistaken for a mixed martial arts event between a heavyweight and a lightweight.

Dapp School and Eleanor Hall School won the boys and girls championships respectively at the annual elementary school basketball tournament, which was hosted on Friday at Dapp School.

On March 12, Barrhead Composite High School hosted the basketball zone championships, as both male and female teams competed for top spot in the zone. “It was a good, competitive tournament.
