The Atom 2 Warriors travelled north to Spirit River March 15-18 in their quest to become provincial champions, but came up just short, losing in the semifinals to Drumheller. The Warriors opened March 16 against their rivals from New Sarepta.

It has been a long season for Westlock’s minor hockey teams, but four of them will continue to play this month as they defeated all comers in zone playdowns and punched their tickets to their respective provincial championship tournaments.

St. Mary School hosted the Alberta School Athletic Association North Central Zone 1A Finals March 9-10 at the Rotary Spirit Centre, with the boys sinking their teeth in bronze and the girls netting fifth.

Barrhead Figure Skating Club (BFSC) coach Misty Blake made her comments to the Barrhead Leader in an emailed statement and says all 12 of the STAR skaters participating in the program this season have done a terrific job.

It was a good start to the playoff series. The Barrhead Midget 2 Renegades faced off against the Camrose Nordics Mar. 8 in the first round of league playoffs, winning 11-3 and head coach Dave Bondarchuk said he thought the team played well.
