Wm. Frederick Corrigan
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of William Frederick Corrigan, of St. Albert, who passed peacefully on October 21, 2020 at the age of 89 years.
Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Irene Corrigan, his children Theresa Raines (Dennis), Ila Androschuk (Bob), Brian Corrigan (Joan Rivington), Paul Corrigan (Anna), his 9 grandchildren, brother Norman, and numerous family and friends.
Fred was born and raised on a farm, and as a teen lived through hard times while raising his younger siblings on the homestead. His love of the land led him to study agriculture at Olds College, work in Hanna, Alberta for the Farm Credit Corporation, manage his own farm in Rochester, Alberta, and later work as a Land Appraiser in the Westlock area.
Fred was grounded in goodness. He was grateful for every gift in his life, however simple. He was supported and strengthened in his Catholic faith. Through his example, he taught his children the importance of gratitude, hard work, humility, to say thank you, to work well with others, and to have a sense of humour. He cultivated friendships with whomever he met, especially over a good game of crib. Fred was quick to help, slow to judge, and reluctant to impose. He took immense pride in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
Fred worked hard, took nothing for granted, lived his life with dignity and grace, while enjoying the bounties of his life’s harvest. He was grateful for every meal in his 89 years of life, so the first plate at our family gatherings will always be Papa’s.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. P. Newnham and the staff at the Foyer Lacombe for their care and compassion in Fred’s last days.
Never wanting to impose, Fred had requested a private service for close family be held.
