ELIZABETH MARY DUPLESSIS
January 11, 1946 – October 21, 2024
Our hearts are broken with the loss of our dearest Elizabeth (Liz) Duplessis, who passed away peacefully at the Grey Nuns Palliative Care Unit on October 21, 2024, after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born on January 11, 1946, in Brockville, Ontario, Liz was raised in the Ottawa Valley. At the age of 18, she ventured out West to work at the Banff Springs Hotel, where she met her first love, Emil Duplessis, who predeceased her in 1996. Liz found love again and married Clare Berube in 2012.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Koeniger of Metcalfe, Ontario and Laurier and Mary Duplessis. Her first husband, Emil Duplessis of Boyle, Alberta, long time companion Harvey Perkins and sister in law Caroline Shymoniak. Liz’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Clare Berube, her brother Michael (Donna) Koeniger of Ottawa, her three beloved children: Shelley (Rick) Tkachuk, Grayson (Janelle) Duplessis, Monette (Allan) Hrynyk, as well, brother in law Edward Shymoniak. She will also be remembered by her cherished grandchildren: Briana (Ryan) Ouelette, Rylan (Corrine) Tkachuk, Molly Duplessis, Addie Duplessis, Kynisha Hrynyk, Dathan (Caitlynn) Hrynyk, Jazbey Hrynyk and her eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Liz was a friend to many, an entrepreneur, a mentor, and a vibrant spirit—charismatic, generous, and loving. An avid thrifter, she had a unique flair that touched everyone around her.
A celebration of Liz’s life will be held on November 4, 2024, at the Boyle Community Centre at 1 PM. The inurnment will happen at the Donatville cemetery at a later date.
