SINCLAIR, Donald (Don)

November 25th 1936 - November 6th, 2022

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Donald Sinclair on November 6th, 2022 at the age of 85 years.

He will be remembered by his loving wife of 4 years, Donna; son: Michael (Bev), and (Jenn/Leslie, Andrew/Tej, Jessica/Tony); daughter: Bernadette (Joseph) Skuban, and (Dominique, Veronica, Isaac, Patrick, Samuel, Miguel, Martin and Justin); daughter-in-law: Edrina, and (Maria/Mathew, Michelle, David/Dri, Nicole/Zayne) as well as stepdaughter Marion, and (Kilian, Coyne/Janette ); stepdaughter Cathy (Danny) Klemp, and (Michael/Nikki, Matthew, Andy); stepson Kelly (Chris), and (Halle, Jordan); 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 56 years, (Gladys); second wife of 2 years, (Joan); sons, (Paul, Martin, William); siblings, (Allan, Gordon, Gladys, Connie); and his parents, (William and Hannah).

Don was born in Wheatley Hill, County Durham, England, living through WWII as a child. He met and married his first love Gladys, and they raised 3 children in Scotland. He suffered the loss of two baby boys. Don spent some time in the RAF before joining the Merchant Navy. He then studied to become an engineer working for BP before moving to Canada with his family in 1981. Some of the things he loved doing were, photography when he was younger, cooking, baking, sewing, woodworking, tinkering with cars, dancing, computers, puppetry, and watching Dr Who. We remember Don for having a good sense of humor, something his caregivers of late mention as one of his special gifts; he loved to make everyone smile. Don’s faith in God was very important to him and he tried to include it in many parts of his life, including truck stop ministry, volunteering for pastoral care in the hospital and lodges, and praying with those he loved. His faith was also shown in the way he always used his gifts for others. Don was not attached to things. He was a very involved grandfather and was always very proud of his grandchildren. Don had a happy but short marriage to Joan after Gladys died. The last four and a half years of his life were especially happy because of his marriage to Donna. They were true companions, and were never apart. We will all miss him dearly.

A prayer service was held at 7:30pm, on Friday, November 11th 2022, at St. Ann’s RC Church, Barrhead, Alberta. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 at St. Ann’s RC Church, Barrhead. Cremation followed.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Don Sinclair’s name to Little Warriors, Box 3184, Sherwood Park, AB T8H 2T2 or Littlewarriors.ca Masses may also be offered for the repose of Don’s soul. Please call your nearest Roman Catholic Church and ask to have a Mass said.
