UPDATE: House destroyed in fire demolished

The abandoned house on 107th street has been demolished and now stands as an empty lot.

A house fire that broke out on April 23 on 107th Street in Westlock has officially been torn down.

Residents began noticing demolition crews entering the area on Tuesday morning. Eagle Excavation crews had completely demolished the burned-down building, taking the preventative fences with them.

The lot now stands empty, and there is currently no word about what will happen with the unit. In a statement from CAO Simone Wiley, the town had issued an order to the property owner to clean up the area. However, when the deadline passed and the area was not completed, the Town carried out the work.

Wiley said, in regards to the cost of cleanup, “The cost associated with the cleanup will be added to the property's tax roll, and the standard tax collection process will apply.”

According to Fire Chief John Biro, the fire is still under investigation, but the house fire has been deemed non-suspicious.
